When installing a new filter housing: confirm it is properly supported and check to be sure the element is centered in the housing. Apply sufficient torque to the hex nut(s) to ensure that the element is properly sealed.
With the cover installed, start the equipment and observe the exhaust for visual signs of oil mist or smoke. Note: A new element will often allow passage of some smoke until the element becomes wetted with oil. This should occur within the first half hour of operation.
If signs of smoke or oil mist are apparent after the first half hour of operation, shut off the equipment and examine the element end seals for cracks or other signs of by-pass. If end seals are cracked, the element must be replaced.
Oil must periodically be drained from the unit. This may be done manually or through the use of an automatic drain trap.
