Installing a new filter housing

When installing a new filter housing: confirm it is properly supported and check to be sure the element is centered in the housing. Apply sufficient torque to the hex nut(s) to ensure that the element is properly sealed.

With the cover installed, start the equipment and observe the exhaust for visual signs of oil mist or smoke. Note: A new element will often allow passage of some smoke until the element becomes wetted with oil. This should occur within the first half hour of operation.

If signs of smoke or oil mist are apparent after the first half hour of operation, shut off the equipment and examine the element end seals for cracks or other signs of by-pass. If end seals are cracked, the element must be replaced.

Oil must periodically be drained from the unit. This may be done manually or through the use of an automatic drain trap.

FILTER ELEMENT MAINTENANCE

Time intervals for servicing exhaust filters will vary with each installation, but frequent inspections will easily establish a proper service schedule. Normal servicing should not be needed for at least six months after start-up.

The coalescing element is NOT cleanable and should be replaced if:

•  It becomes clogged with oil sludge or varnish.

•  Back pressure has increased through the element resulting in operational pressure increases higher than normal.

When reassembling the coalescing element, be sure to tighten the cover or retainer nuts to prevent by-pass of oil smoke around the sealing surface of the element.
